You choose to navigate the top floor after considering how it may be safer than possibly getting locked behind the basement door for the night. The small amount of light from the moon that comes through the broken windows is soothing and makes you feel safer than the flashlight that depends on the life of batteries.
"One quick look, and then I'll return home." You whisper as you reach the last step to the second floor. You creep down the empty hallway and take in all of the unfamiliar details. Broken glass and a thick layer of dust litter the floor. An ugly shade of paint peels from the damp walls.
A loud creak from the floor boards behind you unsettle you and you quickly turn around. There is a figure directly behind you, shining a light of their own into your face. Easily startled, you drop the flashlight and take several steps back as you shield your face from the blinding light.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Her voice demands.
You are still shaken with the unexpected appearance, it is difficult for you to find your voice or find the answers. You kneel down and shakily reach for your flashlight, throwing the question back at her and the person behind her. "Who are you?"
A young woman stands before you, her thick brown hair is pulled back in a messy but attractive pony tail. The armed woman hisses, "Tell us what you are doing here first!" You fall silent... you are initially too embarrassed to say. She moves closer to you with the gun and demands an answer, "Are you one of them?"
"What?!" you thought you were alone in the warehouse, you don't know who 'them' could possibly refer to. The hostility in her tone makes you fearful to be remotely associated with whomever 'they' are. "No, no, it's just me. I'm here because I- well. I had a dream, or something. I thought it was crazy so I came here to make sure it was nothing."
The brunette's eyes study you suspiciously. She does not want to trust you too easily. Finally she rolls her eyes and steps back, "I don't have time for this. I'm on a very important investigation, so you're going to leave. I'm going to make sure you leave, and you are not going to come back in here, understood?"
You stare at the nose of her gun and wonder what you have stumbled across. This was not in your dream, which is assuring in a vague sense. You nod and clutch your flash light, "Yes, alright. I'll go, I won't come back."
You cautiously take the stairs down to the first level with the woman following a few steps behind. You turn the way you came but you glance back at the metal door that leads to the basement. You are pretty sure you saw what was down there in your dream.
